I built my own tank 10 years ago. Had it running for about 6 or 7 months, but my heaters kept dying, so it was out of commission for a couple of those months. I floated 5 times about 4 years before then. Each time was very interesting.
After I built mine, nothing happened for the first couple of months. And i mean NOTHING. I was so disappointed.
One thing I learned is that you should be pretty tired before you go in.
What worked for me was when I got up very early, exercised, and then floated. One morning I fell asleep, started dreaming. There was a 40 foot wave crashing towards me, I jumped back. Woke up with my entire body vibrating as if I was being electrocuted. However, I knew my physical body wasn't moving. I was confused. after a minute or two, it donned on me that this was what Robert Monroe described in his book, Journeys out of the Body.
It happened again in the next week. Told myself to unhook and roll out. I flipped face down, but was still breathing. Kept telling myself to be calm, but, of course, I was pretty excited. Then it just became a lucid dream.
Next time, unhook/roll out, and I shot out of the tank. was in my living room. Excited beyond words. Wanted to fly out, but then I started looking at myself in the mirror. Became preoccupied with that. Got sucked back into the tank.
Had to move in the next few weeks, so that was the end of that.
Didn't have it running until a year ago October. Have had a few lucid dreams. And far too many disappointing floats.
I'm somewhat disillusioned right now. Surprised at how little has happened. I float 1-3 times a weeks. Though there are many times I'll go 6-10weeks without floating.
