Epsom Salt

I've located a local commercial supplier for Epsom Salt. Looking around before I get the other stuff for the tank I plan to build.
The Salt is $0.40/lb USD, which if I bought 800lbs, ocmes to $320 alone. I was wondering, if 800lb of salt if REQUIRED? Can you get by with less, say 400lbs?
